Southborough
Southborough is a town in west Kent between Tonbridge and Royal Tunbridge Wells, built along the London Road above a 71-acre common owned by the town council. Its housing runs from seventeenth-century timber frames refaced in Georgian stucco to Decimus Burton villas and late-Victorian brick terraces. High Brooms station, inside the town, runs direct to London Charing Cross. Vine Estates handles a small number of sales here personally.
What it’s actually like
Southborough is quietly one of the best spots between Tonbridge and Tunbridge Wells. It has its own common, its own station, and a run of houses looking out over that common which would be talked about a great deal more if they sat a mile further south. The High Brooms end has its own strong community. Decimus Burton built the church and Bentham Hill House here in the early 1830s.

The houses
The London Road spine carries seventeenth- and eighteenth-century survivals dressed up as Georgian town houses — one Grade II cottage is timber-framed under a stuccoed front grooved to imitate masonry. Weatherboarding and tile-hanging appear on Holden Road and the old Bat and Ball. The strongest period is Regency: Decimus Burton built the Church of St Peter in 1830 and Bentham Hill House in 1830–32. Later brick terraces followed the Holden Estate of 1879 and the High Brooms brickworks.
Getting to London
High Brooms station sits in the High Brooms part of Southborough. Southeastern run two trains an hour off-peak direct to London Charing Cross on the Hastings line, fastest around 48 minutes, with Cannon Street at peak — a little quicker than Tunbridge Wells.
Schools
Southborough CE Primary and St Matthew's CE Primary at High Brooms serve the town. There is no secondary school in the parish; the nearest are in Tunbridge Wells, including The Skinners' School and Tunbridge Wells Grammar School for Boys.
