Bidborough is a small ridge-top village in west Kent, between Tonbridge and Royal Tunbridge Wells, with a compact historic core around the Grade II\* church of St Lawrence. It has around 33 listed entries, a conservation area designated in 1990, and no station of its own. Tonbridge and High Brooms are each about two miles away. Bidborough sits up on the ridge, and the views off the top of it are the reason people come. It's small — a church, a short street, a well-regarded primary school — with Tonbridge and Tunbridge Wells each about two miles away. That balance of a quiet village and easy access is a genuinely hard thing to find. The Morris and Company glass in St Lawrence's is worth going inside to see.

The houses
The parish is small — 33 listed entries, several of them churchyard tombs — so this is a compact core rather than a long historic street. The Grange, Grade II\*, is mid-sixteenth-century close-studded framing on a stone plinth with brick underbuilding, tile-hanging and a peg-tile roof. St Lawrence's is built of large roughly-dressed blocks of local sandstone, probably quarried just south-east of the church. The rest sits around the church, the short High Street and outlying farmsteads.
Getting to London
Bidborough has no station. Tonbridge is about two miles north, with four Southeastern trains an hour off-peak direct to London Charing Cross and a fastest journey of around 40 minutes. High Brooms is about the same distance south, at around 48 minutes.

Bidborough Church of England Primary School on Spring Lane is a one-form-entry village primary. There is no secondary and no independent school in the parish; the nearest are at Tonbridge and Royal Tunbridge Wells.

What is the church at Bidborough?
St Lawrence's, Grade II\* listed, with a twelfth-century nave, a thirteenth-century north aisle and a west tower of the late fourteenth or early fifteenth century. Its re-set south doorway incorporates a partly blocked twelfth-century arch with detached shafts and cushion capitals.
Is there anything unusual about Bidborough church?
Its stained glass. The listing records eight early twentieth-century Morris and Company windows, two of them to late nineteenth-century designs by Burne-Jones, alongside earlier Clayton and Bell glass of 1865 and 1878. Eight Morris windows in a village church of this size is genuinely rare.
