Eynsford
Eynsford is a village in the Darent valley in west Kent, strung along a High Street between a Norman castle and an eleventh-century flint church, with a medieval bridge and a working ford side by side. What it’s actually like
Eynsford is the one people photograph — the medieval bridge and the ford side by side, the Norman castle, the flint church above them. It's a genuinely lovely village to live in as well as to look at, strung along one street with the Darent running through it and a train to Blackfriars from the village station. Lullingstone Roman Villa and the castle are both a short walk up the valley.

The houses
Eynsford is a linear riverine village with two historic ends that grew together. Fifteenth- and sixteenth-century timber-framed houses — Malt Cottage, Elizabeth Cottages, Tudor Cottage — sit among seventeenth- and eighteenth-century houses, Georgian brick and Victorian terraces. Materials run flint, timber framing behind lime render, white weatherboarding, red brick in Flemish bond with dark headers, and handmade clay peg tiles. The best stock is on the High Street and Riverside.
Getting to London
Eynsford station is in the village, on the Darent Valley line. Thameslink run two trains an hour off-peak direct to London Blackfriars, fastest around 53 minutes, extending at peak through the Thameslink core. There is no direct Victoria service.
Schools
The Anthony Roper Primary School on the High Street serves the village. There is no secondary school and no independent school in Eynsford; the nearest secondaries are at Swanley and in the towns beyond the valley.

Is Lullingstone Castle the same as the Roman villa?
No. The Roman villa is managed by English Heritage and is a scheduled monument. Lullingstone Castle is a Tudor manor house, built between 1543 and 1580 and privately owned by the Hart Dyke family. The house is Grade II\* listed and its gatehouse, unusually, is Grade I.
Which trains run from Eynsford?
Thameslink run two trains an hour off-peak direct to London Blackfriars, with a fastest journey of around 53 minutes, and two an hour the other way down the Darent Valley line. At peak, services continue through the Thameslink core towards Welwyn Garden City.
