There's a Grade I church, a beautifully preserved mill, and an eighteenth-century ornamental screen standing in the river itself. Eynsford station is a couple of miles south for the London train. The Lion Hotel was a coaching inn on the old London to Dover road.

Farningham is a historic roadside village, its High Street the backbone. The medieval flint church, the weatherboarded mill complex and eighteenth-century houses give way to polite Georgian brick in Flemish bond, Victorian houses, and twentieth-century neo-Georgian. Materials run painted weatherboarding, timber framing behind lime render, flint walling, red brick and steep roofs of handmade Kent peg tiles. Numbers 46 and 47 High Street carry mathematical tiles — tiles hung to imitate brickwork.

Farningham has no station. Eynsford, about two miles south, runs two Thameslink trains an hour direct to London Blackfriars, fastest around 53 minutes. Farningham Road, two miles north and actually at South Darenth, runs one train an hour to London Victoria, fastest around 32 minutes.
