Lingfield
Lingfield is a village in the Tandridge district of Surrey with 49 listed buildings, three of them Grade I and eight Grade II\* — proportionally the richest medieval and Tudor stock in this part of Surrey. The houses
Pollard Cottage is the standout: a pre-Tudor timber-framed hall house, Grade I, with Kentish bracing, coved eaves, dragon posts and beams and irregular leaded windows. The Old Guest House and The College, both Grade II* and both of 1431, belong to the medieval college of secular chaplains. Star Inn Cottages are a Tudor terrace behind a Georgian front, and The Garth is Georgian of 1729. The old stock clusters at Gun Pond, Church Town and the High Street.
Getting to London
Lingfield station is in the village on the East Grinstead branch of the Oxted line. Southern run one train an hour off-peak direct to London Victoria, fastest around 49 minutes, with additional peak-time Thameslink services to London Bridge.
Schools
Lingfield Primary School is on Vicarage Road and Dormansland Primary School serves the neighbouring village. Lingfield College is the independent co-educational day school, taking pupils from six months to eighteen and founded in 1940.
